How Sea Moss Can Assist In Blood Building Postpartum

How Sea Moss Can Assist In Blood Building Postpartum

Giving birth involves losing blood, and alongside postpartum bleeding, can put mothers at risk of becoming deficient in important blood building nutrients, especially if a haemorrhage or large bleed was experienced during birth. This is why it is important to focus on building and nourishing blood after giving birth, through food as medicine and supplementation if necessary.   Folate and vitamin B12 are two vitally important B vitamins which aid to build and nourish blood. Folate is known for its impact in preventing neural tube defects in early pregnancy, but is equally as important postpartum functioning to reduce the incidence of postpartum depression, due to its role in creating serotonin; a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in mood regulation. Vitamin B12 is crucial for red blood cell development, energy production, and DNA formation. Inadequate B12 levels in babies can lead to irritability, increased risk of failure to thrive, developmental delays, and poor brain growth. Additionally, B12 supports immune function and nervous system growth, making it particularly important for breastfeeding mothers postnatally. Natures Farmer Sea Green Warrior Sea Moss contains chlorella, which contains a bioavailable plant-based source of both vitamin B12 and folate, in addition to sea moss containing trace amounts of B12 which further contribute to these benefits.   Iron is a crucial nutrient for new mothers, especially in the postpartum period. During childbirth, women lose a significant amount of iron, which needs to be replenished to maintain optimal health. This mineral plays a vital role in ensuring both maternal and infant well-being. For breastfeeding mothers, iron stores not only support their own recovery but also provide essential nourishment to their babies. Iron is essential for the proper development and function of the baby's thyroid, among other vital processes. However, mothers with low iron levels after delivery may experience a range of issues including fatigue, cognitive changes, and even depressive symptoms. Therefore, paying attention to iron intake and ensuring adequate levels is crucial for the well-being of both mother and child during the postpartum period. Maintaining gut health is crucial for optimal iron absorption. Our Sea Moss Gels aid in promoting optimal gut health through decreasing inflammation, and up-regulates our protective mucous layer of our gut to ensure that iron is effectively absorbed into the bloodstream for utilisation throughout the body. When the gut is inflamed or compromised, it can hinder the absorption of essential nutrients like iron, leading to potential deficiencies.   After birth the body undergoes various physiological changes, including increased oxidative stress due to factors like inflammation and tissue repair. Vitamin C plays a crucial role during this period as an antioxidant which help counteract the effects of oxidative stress by neutralising harmful free radicals that can damage cells and tissues. This is particularly important for postpartum recovery, as it supports the body's natural healing processes and helps reduce the risk of oxidative damage to cells. Additionally, vitamin C contributes to the creation of collagen, a protein essential for tissue repair and wound healing, further aiding the recovery process after childbirth. Additionally, vitamin C which is found in Sea Moss and the lime juice contained within, enhances the absorption of non-heme iron, which further supports blood nourishing and building postpartum.References: Lomartire, S., Marques, J. Sea Moss and Its Immune-Boosting Powers

Sea Moss and Its Immune-Boosting Powers

Strengthening Your Body's Defense System  As the temperature drops and the cooler months approach, prioritising prevention becomes essential in warding off any sickness. Strengthening our immune system's resilience is paramount for maintaining overall health, and Nature’s Farmer Sea sea moss gel serves as an ideal ally in boosting immunity. Packed with immune-enhancing components such as antioxidants, minerals and prebiotic fibres, sea moss gel emerges as a potent powerhouse that collaborates with our digestive system to significantly increase our body's defences.   The Gut Connection  The gut, often referred to as the body's second brain, houses approximately 80% of our immune system. Thus, maintaining gut health is fundamental to overall immune function. Sea moss, brimming with essential nutrients and vitamins, emerges as a potent ally in supporting gut health and, consequently, increasing immune resilience.  Rich in Gut-Friendly Fibres  One of the standout qualities of sea moss is its abundance of indigestible fibre, acting as a prebiotic to nourish beneficial bacteria in the gut. This fosters a harmonious microbial ecosystem, known as the gut microbiome. This microbiome plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health by aiding in digestion, nutrient absorption, and most importantly, regulating immune responses to ensure a robust defence against pathogens. Furthermore, this prebiotic fibre content in sea moss stimulates the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), such as butyrate, which play a pivotal role in modulating immune function. By influencing the gut-brain axis and hormone signalling pathways, SCFAs contribute to immune regulation and inflammation management, particularly beneficial for conditions rooted in immune dysregulation. Blog Post: Sea Moss and Its Immune-Boosting Powers: Strengthening Your Body's Defense System 1  Antioxidant Armor  Beyond its fibre content, sea moss is a powerhouse of antioxidants, including vitamins C, A, and E. These potent compounds work to neutralise harmful free radicals, mitigating oxidative stress and fortifying cellular defences against damage. Vitamin A, in the form of beta carotene and other carotenoids found in sea moss, acts as a fat-soluble antioxidant that helps protect cells from oxidative damage and supports immune health by promoting the production of immune cells and enhancing their function. Vitamin E protects cell membranes from oxidative damage and helps maintain the integrity of cell structures. It also plays a role in regulating immune responses and reducing inflammation, thereby contributing to immune resilience.   Immune-Boosting Minerals  In addition to its rich fibre and antioxidant content, sea moss is also abundant in essential minerals vital for immune function, such as zinc and selenium. These minerals play crucial roles in supporting various immune processes, including the production of immune cells and the regulation of immune responses. Zinc, for example, is a trace mineral that serves as a cofactor for numerous enzymes involved in immune cell development, differentiation, and function. It plays a pivotal role in the proliferation and activity of immune cells such as T cells, which are essential for mounting an effective immune response against pathogens. Additionally, zinc contributes to the maintenance of the integrity of the skin and mucosal barriers, which act as the first line of defence against invading microorganisms. Similarly, selenium acts as an essential component of antioxidant enzymes, such as glutathione peroxidase, which protect cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals generated during immune responses.   Taking a spoonful or two of Nature's Farmer Sea sea moss gel provides benefits beyond taste! Your body will thank you for taking preventative measures as your immune system receives a powerful boost, ready to defend against illness and maintain optimal health.  References  Braun, L., & Cohen, M. Leaky Gut Symptoms, How Sea Moss Can Help!

Leaky Gut Symptoms, How Sea Moss Can Help!

Effective Leaky Gut Treatment with Sea Moss Gel The term ‘leaky gut’, or formally known as intestinal permeability, has gained significant popularity on social media in the past few years, making the sale of expensive health products profitable in claiming to fix this disease state. Intestinal permeability is a condition where the lining of the small intestine becomes more porous (leaky) than normal, allowing substances such as undigested food particles, toxins, and bacteria to leak into the bloodstream. This condition has been associated with various health issues, including inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and digestive problems. The Science Behind Leaky Gut The lining of the small intestine is composed of a single layer of epithelial cells held together by tight junctions. These tight junctions act as a barrier, regulating the passage of substances through the intestinal lining. Disruption of tight junctions can lead to increased permeability. Factors such as inflammation, infections, dietary factors, stress, and certain medications may compromise the integrity of these tight junctions. Dietary Factors and Their Impact Chronic inflammation in the gut can contribute to the breakdown of the intestinal barrier. Dietary influences such as processed and refined grains, sugars, beverages, and other carbohydrates, in addition to alcohol, hydrogenated vegetable oils (canola, soybean, sunflower, safflower, rapeseed, corn), additives and pesticides can cause chronic inflammation in the gut and exacerbate intestinal permeability, leading to symptoms of bloating, gas, undigested food in stools, constipation, and/or diarrhoea. Sea Moss Gel: A Natural Solution Natures Farmer Sea’s Sea Moss Gels have the ability to increase mucin synthesis, which thereby enhances the integrity of the mucosal barrier, reducing the risk of inflammation caused by the penetration of unwanted substances through the intestinal lining. Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α), Interleukin-4 (IL-4), and Nuclear Factor Kappa Beta (NF-κB) are pro-inflammatory molecules that are all up-regulated when intestinal permeability is present; Sea Moss downregulates the expression of each of these inflammatory mediators, therefore aiding to modulate the body's inflammatory response and decrease the severity of intestinal permeability. The Role of Gut Microbiota in Leaky Gut Treatment The balance of microorganisms in the gut, known as the gut microbiota, plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy intestinal barrier. Imbalances in the gut microbiota (dysbiosis) can contribute to inflammation and compromise the integrity of the intestinal lining, leading to increased permeability. Sea moss may increase the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Bacteroides, Akkermansia, and Lactobacillus. These bacteria play essential roles in maintaining a healthy gut environment and supporting overall digestive health. In addition, sea moss may also contribute to a reduction in the abundance of harmful bacteria associated with dysbiosis, such as Lachnospiraceae, Desulfovibrio, and Lachnoclostridium. Elevated levels of these bacteria have been linked to inflammation and other gut-related disorders. References: Anyanji, V. U., Mustapha, N. M., Lim, S. L., & Mohamed, S. (2015). Manage Stress and Get a Good Night Sleep with Sea Moss

Manage Stress and Get a Good Night Sleep with Sea Moss

Introduction to Managing Stress and Sleep in the New Year As we start a new work year, burnout, stress, and exhaustion can become all too familiar. The demands of everyday life, coupled with the pressure of a fresh year, can take a toll on our well-being. This is especially true for our stress levels and sleep patterns. In this blog post, we consult with Clinical Nutritionist Alicia to understand how Sea Moss, particularly rich in minerals, can help.   The Role of Magnesium in Stress and Sleep Eucheuma Cottonii, the Sea Moss strain in Natures Farmer Sea's Sea Moss gels, is a rich source of magnesium. This mineral is crucial in stress resilience and sleep initiation. Stress depletes magnesium, affecting our ability to handle stressors. Magnesium plays a key role in resisting psychological stress, such as glutamate excitotoxicity. It also enhances the calming actions of the GABAergic systems in our nervous system. During acute stress, our adrenal glands use up magnesium. Sea Moss helps replenish these stores, aiding in stress management. Notably, magnesium decreases serum cortisol levels, promoting restorative sleep.   Potassium's Impact on Anxiety and Sleep Another key mineral in Sea Moss is potassium. Anxiety and stress often lead to decreased blood potassium levels. Sea Moss counteracts this effect. Studies show that anxiety can increase adrenal hormones, which deplete potassium. Potassium is vital for sleep regulation, highlighting the importance of maintaining optimal levels for a good night's sleep.   Phosphorus for Energy and Stress Response Sea Moss also contains phosphorus, crucial for adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, the primary energy currency in cells. A robust stress response and resilience depend on efficient energy metabolism. Adequate phosphorus from Sea Moss supports energy processes during stress adaptation. This is especially important during year-end challenges that can lead to stress and disrupted sleep.   Conclusion: Embracing Sea Moss for Well-being The magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus in Sea Moss play significant roles in stress resilience, sleep regulation, and energy metabolism. Incorporating Sea Moss into your diet may be a holistic approach to supporting your body's stress response and enhancing sleep quality. Embrace a more relaxed and rejuvenated new year with the natural benefits of Sea Moss. Help Hay fever Naturally with Sea Moss

Help Hay fever Naturally with Sea Moss

Spring has officially sprung in Australia, painting our world with its vibrant hues, but unfortunately for some, ushering dreaded seasonal allergies and hay fever, unwelcomed with symptoms of itchy eyes, runny noses and congestion which puts a damper on enjoying the warmer weather. However, at Natures Farmer Sea, we offer a refreshing, all-natural solution in the form of our sea moss gels to ease the discomfort caused by seasonal allergies and hay fever.   Sea moss, scientifically known as Eucheuma Cottonii, is well known, and researched for its rich mucilage content. Mucilage is a substance that transforms into a gel-like consistency when soaked in water. This unique property has been linked to its potential to soothe irritated mucous membranes in the nasal passages and respiratory tract. For individuals suffering from hay fever, this could translate to relief from congestion, a runny nose, and other related symptoms. The mucilage in sea moss may help create a barrier that shields the mucous membranes from allergens, reducing their impact and providing much-needed comfort during allergy season.   Seasonal allergies and hay fever can cause itchiness of the skin, eyes and/or a flare-up of eczema. Sea moss, when applied topically, offers a natural remedy to address these issues. The aforementioned mucilage present in sea moss can also lock in moisture when applied topically to the skin and have soothing properties that can help calm irritated and inflamed skin. This moisturizing effect helps soothe dryness and irritation, working to restore the skin's natural moisture barrier. By forming a protective layer, sea moss may alleviate the discomfort associated with itchy skin and promote overall skin health.   We have a beautifully intricate connection between our gut microbiome and our immune system which has been extensively researched. Sea moss has positive effects on this axis through enhancing the abundance and composition of our gut microbiota. Sea moss is rich in soluble fibre, which serves as fuel and nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria through fermenting in the colon, and producing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) as by-products. SCFAs have multiple health benefits, including supporting the growth of other beneficial bacteria, maintaining gut barrier integrity, and reducing inflammation. A balanced and diverse gut microbiota is essential for modulating the immune system's response to potential allergens. By fostering the growth of healthy gut bacteria, sea moss indirectly supports the immune system in managing allergic reactions.   As spring unfolds, the battle against seasonal allergies and hay fever doesn’t have to be a challenging one when you have Natures Farmer Sea to support you. Sea moss emerges as your natural assistant, offering a multi-faceted approach to alleviate the discomfort caused by these allergies. Through its mucilage content, sea moss has the potential to soothe irritated respiratory passages and alleviate congestion. Its moisturising properties provide relief from itchy skin and eczema when applied topically. Furthermore, sea moss supports a healthy gut microbiota composition, contributing to immune resilience against allergens.Check out our OG Sea Moss gel and get on top of your allergies:  References: Rudtanatip, T., Lynch, S. Embrace the blooms, tame the sneezes. How Sea Moss can help you this Allergy Season

Embrace the blooms, tame the sneezes. How Sea Moss can help you this Allergy Season

Asthma, hay fever, and allergies are common inflammatory airway diseases that can significantly impact the quality of life of those affected. Asthma is characterised by the thickening of the smooth muscle layer around airways, increased mucus production, and airway obstruction. Hay fever and allergies, on the other hand, are often caused by immune system responses to allergens, resulting in symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes. Natures Farmer Sea utilises Eucheuma cottonii as its predominant Sea Moss strain, which has been shown to possess therapeutic potential in these diseases. Research has found that Eucheuma cottonii can ease lung inflammation and induce smooth muscle relaxation, in addition to reducing the number of circulating white blood cells which signify infection or inflammation. One study published in the Journal of Functional Foods found that Eucheuma cottonii reduced inflammation, mucin synthesis, eosinophil infiltration, and MMP-9 expressions in asthma compared to Loratadine (a commonly used antihistamine medication). Eosinophils are a type of white blood cell that plays a role in allergic reactions and can contribute to airway inflammation and constriction in asthma patients. By reducing eosinophil infiltration, Eucheuma cottonii can help reduce smooth muscle thickness and improve airflow in the lungs of those with asthma. Another study published in the Iranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences found that Eucheuma cottonii had beneficial effects on alveolar macrophages (immune cells that play a crucial role in removing foreign particles and debris from the lungs) and malondialdehyde levels (a marker of oxidative stress and inflammation in the body) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in chronic particulate matter exposure. The findings suggest that Eucheuma cottonii may have protective effects against the harmful effects of environmental pollutants on the lungs. In addition to its effects on asthma, Eucheuma cottonii has also been shown to have potential in treating hay fever and allergies. One study published in the Journal of Agricultural andFood Chemistry found that Eucheuma cottonii extract had significant anti-inflammatory effects in human mast cells, which play a role in allergic reactions. The study suggests that Eucheuma cottonii extract may be useful in treating allergy-related diseases such as hay fever. Furthermore, a study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food found that Eucheuma cottonii extract exhibited significant antihistamine and anti inflammatory effects in mice with allergic rhinitis,a type of allergy that affects the nose and sinuses. The study suggests that Eucheuma cottonii extract may have potential in treating the symptoms of hay fever and other allergies. In conclusion, Eucheuma cottonii shows great promise in the treatment of asthma, hay fever, and allergies. Its ability to reduce inflammation, induce smooth muscle relaxation, and decrease circulating white blood cells make it a potential therapeutic agent in these diseases. While more research is needed to confirm its efficacy and safety in human trials, Eucheuma cottonii represents a natural and potentially effective alternative to conventional medications in the management of these conditions.
